Latest find - 1825 Toile de Jouy

Bonjour from a very sunny SW France,

I hope you had a fabulous weekend. Our was a magical one, which involved dinner at my favourite restaurant on Saturday night. There is nothing nicer than sitting on a terrace near the water, watching clouds darken in preparation for a storm, that fortunately for us, arrived soon after we left the restaurant.

Sunday morning was an early start as there were a couple of vide-greniers taking place plus an antiques show in the nearby village of Issigeac.

I found this fabulous piece of antique toile de jouy. Wonderfully rare and beautiful, this antique French toile textile is a pattern attributed to Normandy and called " Marie Stuart reine d' Ecosse " Marie Stuart Queen of Scottland. This toile has the most wonderful scene of her excape from Lock Leven castle . This toile was printed in the first quarter of the 19th century, c1800-1825.

It has a few small holes and marks but in general is an very good condition for it's age and the colour is lovely and dark.

It would look fabulous framed and hanging on a wall and would make a fabulous talking point.

I will be listing it on the shop later today as I have quite a lot that I need to get done this afternoon. It is going to be another busy week with guests coming and going and also trying to stock up the shop which is looking a bit empty at present, due to the fact that French Boyfriend has sold all of our larger pieces of furniture, that we were using to display objects on.

Bonjour from a sunny SW France,

If you are a fabulously french facebook follower you will know that I did a little shopping online at the weekend and I purchased the fabulous duvet cover and pillow cases, that you see in the photo above.

I decided that purchasing the whole set was a wee bit impulsive and instead I would pair it with a antique monogrammed sheet.

I said nothing to French Boyfriend and thought that it would be a nice surprise.

This morning French Boyfriend is flicking through the catalogue and stops at the page with.......this photo and says that he does not like a lot of the new toile de jouy designs (he is an antiques dealer stuck in the 18th century) but he likes the look of this design.

Thought that it was best to come clean and tell him that I did a "little" shopping on the internet and that it was scheduled to arrive this weekend.

Just hope that he is not present when my parcels arrive as I have not told him about the other items.....

I ❤ Toile de jouy .......

There is some thing about toile de jouy that is ever lasting, maybe it is the romance in the scences that it depicts, conjuring up images of a simpler life, with wonderfully detailed often dream like designs.

Whether a piece of worn 18th century toile de jouy or a modern day design, I love them all.

I partuculary love the red designs and think that a touch of red makes a world of difference on a grey winter's day.

The cushion, that you see above, is part of our new stock at Fabulously French and this particular design depicts Diane the huntress.

We also have a pair of curtains in the same fabric which would look equally as good when used as window coverings or as a ciel de lit/bed crown.

Whilst on pinterest last night, I found this fabulous photo of a bathroom decorated with wallpaper in the same design.....

Ir really makes a statement but I would have liked a bit more white and favour a white framed mirror and white framed prints above the bath but that is my opinion as a lover of all things white.
