painting with milk paint...

 



 

Bonjour from a very windy SW France,

 

We started the morning with a trip to a local Brocante in a nearby village. The village is perched high on a hill so you can imagine the chaos that the wind caused hence sun umbrellas had to be tightly secured and you could hear items falling to  the ground. Nice to see so many friendly faces but alas no tresors for us this morning.

 

This week I received a surprise package in the mail from a dear guest of ours. Inside the lovely box was some Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint samples. You all know me by now and how I love to paint.

 

Our house is a shrine to Farrow and Ball and I have transformed many items in  the house using Annie Sloan Chalk paint. I have heard that Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint is currently the rage in London so was eager to try it out.

 

I hunted in the garage for something to paint and came up with an old barometer. I decided to try Shutter Gray and as the item had been varnished instead of mixed the powdered paint mixture with water, I mixed it with the bonding agent adherent.

 

The mixture looked a bit thick but went on surprisingly well and I ended up using only one coat.

 

Whilst painting the barometer French Boyfriend arrived and commented on the mixture, he is a painter of landscapes etc. and has sold over 4 000 paintings hence he prefers canvas to furniture....

 

    

 

This is the finished result which I have now hung in the stairwell of Maison No. 20.

I love the colour and cannot wait to try out the other colours but need to find some times that need transforming first.

Mille mercis to "Madame X" for sending me such a thoughtful gift but I think that you have created a painting monster as I am now in the mood to paint......

Love the red drawers, they really pop out at you.....I have just finished painting a console table which has two drawers and to be honest I like the old white colour that I have painted it but am thinking of painting the inside of the drawers a different colour...just need to decide on a colour!

Bonjour mes belles,

It has been a busy day......a bit of spring cleaning followed by some shopping in order to commence cooking dîner; boeuf bourguignon and then take photos of the secretaire which is pretty much finished.


I decided to go with a blue/black colour on the exterior...

and a grey/blue on the interior.....

It is bound for our new shop, with we are going to be opening  in a couple of month's time, with a friend our ours; Sue who is reknown for being our local Queen of "patine".

The shop in Eymet will continue to operate as normal stocking a range of gift and smaller vintage/antique items whereas the larger shop in Castillonnes, will permit us to stock a lot of larger items along with lots of antique and vintage curiosities.

As many of you know the shop is part of a house that I co-own and is currently on the market.  It was previously run as a Chambres D'hotes hence is perfect if you are looking to have a business in France. The shop used to be a butcher shop but is in the process of being fitted as an antiques shop but would lend itself to a variety of uses - florist, salon du thé, small restaurant are a few ideas that spring to mind.  You can see some photos here.

I had better go and check on dinner......

Bonjour from a warmer SW France,

What a difference some warmth and sunshine makes in terms of motivation and the ability to get some painting done.

On Sunday we purchased a fabulous bureau, which although smaller than the one that you see in the photo above, it is vintage and the style is along the lines of louis XVI.

It was varnished wood and I was keen to start using a can of Annie Sloans chalk paint in graphite which is a lovely blue black.

The plan is two coats of paint, shabby the edges and then apply a dark wax.

Note I have started the exterior but have not made a decision re the inside of the bureau as I am torn between a grey blue colour....
 

or picking something similar to the colour in the first photo ....decisions, decisions! Back to the painting I must go.
